FASHION NEWS: Magic Convention 2011
For the past few weeks #TEAMFOMG has embarked on a few journeys. February 14-17 we attended the Magic convention it’s a marketplace for buyers
(department stores, boutiques, and more) to learn about and buy next seasons fashion. The Magic convention is so big that it’s covered in the two biggest convention centers in Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay and the Las Vegas Convention Center. On the first floor at the Mandalay Bay was Project, “BRINGING TOGETHER THE WORLD’S MOST INNOVATIVE ADVANCED CONTEMPORARY BRANDS AND THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS AND FORWARD-THINKING GLOBAL RETAILERS.” With brands such as 7 for All Mankind, Diesel, Helm, Lacoste, Nicole Miller, just to name a few.
Next we went to the 2nd floor and went to S.L.A.T.E. “S.L.A.T.E. is a juried assortment of eclectic and sophisticated brands that established themselves within the skate, surf and street communities and are steadily making their way into the mainstream with all the fashion and attitude of the hipsters, artists and musicians who’ve inspired them.” B.O.B. and Terry Kennedy all attended Magic to represent the brands. S.L.A.T.E. is known for its skateboarding influence and there was no better way to exhibit skating then with a spinoff of the Maloof Cup “The Maloof High Ollie Challenge.” Right next to S.L.A.T.E. was Street Unlimited, where the Urban brands resided 9five Eyewear, Deadline, Hell Fire, UNCL, and Sabit NYC it was great talking with the brand managers and discussing the plans for Summer and Fall.
At the other end of the script was the Las Vegas Convention center where WWDMagic: “Featuring over 1,300 new and emerging brands in a newly merchandised setting, WWDMAGIC delivers the best brands in fashion across every price point and trend.” At WWDMagic Teen Vogue held a Bloggers Lounge that had the worlds most influential fashion leaders reporting live about teen trends, fashion, and social media's impact. Big Shouts to teen Vogue for giving the bloggers a bigger platform to be heard, I think it works for everyone involved.

Outside of all of the sites that the Magic Convention provided, I was very excited to meet some designers and brand managers.
Sabit NYC was well represented by Benzo running their West Coast division. Showed us enthusiastically the new collection that has been spotted on Swizz Beats, the Japanese designer has brought the high end feel to urban style and created the perfect blend.
