Original FOMG Blog: Igor's 15 Minute Break "The Verizon iPhone!"
Ok so finally after 4 years of being on the market the iPhone finally makes it to another carrier, other than at&t. On Feb 10th, Verizon will start selling
the iPhone 4 in all its stores nationwide!
There are millions of people that have been waiting for this and are extremely excited. Here are some pros and cons on the Verizon iPhone. These are not my opinions but facts from consumer reports and other tests.
So some guy that works for the New York Times, took the new Verizon version of the iPhone to six cities including Manhattan, New York and San Francisco, California; the two most problematic areas for AT&T. He sat in the passenger seat of the car he was in and held both phones. He called 777-film on both phones and drove around the areas to see which phone would drop the most calls. The at&t phone dropped about double the calls that the verizon one did. The quote in his article was "almost heaven" when referring to the Verizon network for calls.
So no dropped calls on the Verizon phone and it seems to be the best choice to go with. The Verizon iphone can also double as a wifi modem for up to 5 devices and at&t is also rolling out the feature. At&t's data speed is 40% faster than Verizon's. Now what that means is that if you are browsing the internet or downloading a game/app/video, it will come faster on the at&t version. Also the Verizon phone cannot use the phone and the internet at the same time or even text while on the phone while the at&t one can. I must admit I've only used the internet while i was on the phone talkin to someone a few times. However, this comes into play with the mobile wifi modem. If you are using your Verizon iphone for a modem, every time you get a call your internet connection will be disrupted. Also because its 40% slower your laptop will be goin slower as well when you use the Verizon version as a modem.
One more advantage that at&t has over Verizon is that at&t phones can work in 220 countries while Verizon phones only work in 20. If you do go overseas than at&t would be a better choice.
Otherwise the phones are identical.
So the point is that, the version of the iphone you get should be based on your usage. If you talk on the phone more than you facebook, tweet, text, or browse the net, then the Verizon version is for you. If you are the opposite, I would go with the at&t version. Only time will tell which version is goin to be most popular.
